Tavistock is the eastern gateway to the mining heritage of Devon and Cornwall, built upon the wealth of Tavistock Abbey and the Dukes of Bedford.


Tavistock's rich history stretches back over 1000 years, featuring medieval monks, Sir Francis Drake and a nineteenth-century metamorphosis.

The Guildhall

The Guildhall Gateway Project will restore Tavistock's iconic Guildhall and transform it into a new visitor interpretation centre.

Visitor Information Centre

Our volunteer-run VIC welcomes visitors to Tavistock and gives them the information they need to start exploring the town's fascinating past and captivating present.
