Visitor Information Centre
As part of the Guildhall Gateway Project we reopened Tavistock's Visitor Information Centre which had laid dormant in the town for several years. Entirely run by volunteers it continued to operate at Court Gate in Bedford Square until the work on the Guildhall had finished and it was able to finally move into its new home.
The new visitor information centre is still entirely run by volunteers from the local community, allowing us to both minimise the running costs and draw upon the volunteers' love and knowledge of the local area. Although the project receives some support from both Tavistock Town Council and West Devon Borough Council, the centre also needs to generate the revenue needed to cover its costs. The VIC therefore sells a range of retail products (including local produce) as well as tickets for our guided heritage walks and for local attractions.
