Our Projects - Walking Tours
Tavistock Heritage Trust has a programme of 26 local walks scheduled for every weekend from April to October each year. These walks offer a variety of specified subjects, in addition to a series of walks entitled ‘Discover Tavistock – a Heritage Introduction’, which provides a gentle overview of the history and heritage of Tavistock, Devon’s only World Heritage Site town. Other walks give an insight into the following:
-
Tavistock Canal
-
The remains of Tavistock Abbey
-
Tavistock and the South Devon and Tavistock Railway Company
-
The five wharves of Tavistock
-
Tavistock's industrial heritage
-
The churches in the town, past and present
-
18th-century buildings by eminent architects
-
The history of Tavistock’s water supplies
-
A look at the darker side of Tavistock by twilight
-
a walk around Whitchurch village, whose history dates back to Norman times.
All walks are predominantly within the public domain and are mainly 90 minutes in duration unless otherwise specified. To book your place on the tours, visit our events page for details of dates and tickets.
Our walking tours commence in April and run through to October each year.
