DOWN UNDER: Australian painting from ancient times to European Colonisation - an online talk by Dr Jen Fraser
Location: Online via Zoom
Tickets £5.00 each
‘The land owns us’ – is a statement used by Aboriginal people to describe their relationship to the ancestrally created land but that lies in polar opposition to European notions of land ownership.
As 2020 marked the 250th anniversary since Captain Cook and the HMB Endeavour charted the east coast of Australia, this zoom lecture invites you to explore the connection between the land and the cultivation of identity by looking at the art of both cultures from 50,000 BC to the mid-19th century.
Dr Jen Fraser is an art historian and lecturer with over 20 years’ teaching experience. She is not only interested in historical art movements but also what is referred to as the ‘new art history’ which focuses on non-Western art, new media, aesthetic ideals, and their cultural interpretation(s).
This event is to raise funds for Tavistock Heritage Trust.
