The deadline for submitting artwork to our Open Exhibition celebrating Tavistock's status as a World Heritage Site has now passed. The Exhibition itself will take place in Tavistock's Butchers' Hall between Wednesday 26th and Saturday 29th June. Doors will be open to all between 10am and 4pm, and there will be a special family event on Saturday 29th (details to follow). Many of the artworks will be for sale.
If you have submitted works and would like to know whether you have been selected, or if have any other enquiries regarding the exhibition or artwork, please contact our Learning & Participation Officer Lizzie Mee (firstname.lastname@example.org). Selection of works for the exhibition will take place by 24th May. Delivery of artworks and all other instructions will follow selection.
The resulting exhibition of chosen works will be the first of many activities being run as part of the Guildhall Gateway Centre Project. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and managed in partnership by Tavistock Town Council and Tavistock Heritage Trust, this project will conserve, repair and convert Tavistock’s historic Guildhall and Magistrate’s Court to create a new heritage visitor centre. The new centre will tell the story of Tavistock as the eastern gateway to the Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Visitors will also be able to discover the history of the building itself, which is believed to be England's first purpose-built combined court and police station. Building works will start later this year and the Tavistock Guildhall Gateway Centre is expected to open in late 2020
